Nyerere National Park (Selous)

Staying at Roho Ya Selous

Arrive at Dar airport and take the shuttle to the domestic terminal on time for the flight to Nyerere. Depending on your flight times, you might require a night in Dar, contact us for options.

Arrive at the airstrip where you are met by your guide and road transfer to the lodge, via a meandering game drive. Relax at camp and enjoy your first game drive in the afternoon. Roho ya Selous sits in the very heart of Nyerere National Park (formerly The Selous), a stone’s throw from a palm-fringed tributary of Tanzania's Rufiji River. Your 3 nights include all meals, selected beverages and the scheduled game viewing activities: game drives, boat cruise, fishing and walking depending on the season. Roho ya Selous is perfectly positioned for excellent game viewing, close to a key waterway that links Lake Manze to Lake Nzerakera. Here, pods of hippos wallow and fish eagles scan the landscape from their perches. Giraffes wander through camp on their way to the water and impala graze on the grass around our tents. This is a marshy landscape of palm trees, lakes and rivers and is home to elephants, buffalos, lions, hippos, leopards and one of the largest populations of wild dogs on the planet. Plus, bird enthusiasts can try and spot the more than 400 recorded bird species, including a good number of Pel’s fishing owls, in the region.

Back at camp, take a dip in the pool, gather around the campfire with fellow guests to share safari tales before enjoying dinner surrounded by the sounds of the bush.

Day 4-6

Ruaha National Park

Staying at Jabali Ridge

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for the flight to Ruaha. Meet your tour guide and road transfer to the camp. This is a very different landscape and you will appreciate a whole new game viewing experience. Jabali Ridge is a stylish camp in the wildlife-rich Ruaha National Park, set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Mwagusi River and Ikuka escarpment.

Ruaha National Park is one of the largest national parks in Tanzania, located in the centre of the country. It forms a transitional point between the landscapes of East and Southern Africa, with its golden plains of sun-bleached grass and ancient baobab trees. Your 3 nights include all meals, selected beverages and the scheduled game viewing activities: game drives, and walking depending on the season. Chat to your guide to plan your days.

The greater Ruaha area is thought to be home to one-tenth of the entire world’s wild lion population, with large prides roaming the plains. Cheetah, leopard and packs of wild dog are seen hunting here too. Visitors can also spot greater and lesser kudu, sable and roan antelope, elephants, giraffes, bat-eared foxes and some of the 570 bird species.

After a day spent walking through the bush or tracking lions in a game vehicle, pause for a refreshing G&T as the sun sets over Ruaha. Relax in the hammock on your wooden deck and unwind with a book. Cool off in the glorious infinity pool, which overlooks the vast plains. Enjoy wonderful dinners under the stars and sleep soundly listening to the sound of wildlife around you.

End Of Itinerary

Last morning in the bush, breakfast in camp and transfer back to the airstrip on time for your flight to Dar.

Time at leisure at the airport (depending on your flight time we can add a day excursion or a day room nearby) until your onward flight, or contact us to extend your safari with a few days at the beach or a gorilla encounter.
